The National Centre for Writing celebrates and explores the artistic and social power of creative writing and literary translation. Our on-going programme of innovative collaborations engages writers, literary translators and readers, in person and online, in projects that support new voices and new stories, and respond to the rapidly changing world of writing.

We’re based at the historic Dragon Hall in Norwich, UNESCO City of Literature, where workshops and mentoring are regularly available for writers at all levels, both face-to-face and online. Projects range from major international partnerships to vibrant festivals such as the Noirwich Crime Writing Festival and the City of Literature strand at the Norfolk & Norwich Festival.

Our beautiful home at Dragon Hall is one of Norwich’s most important medieval buildings. Originally a thriving trading hall it has since been through many uses – social housing, a rectory, even a pub – and the walls are bursting with stories. Following a restoration project, Dragon Hall is now free for visitors to explore on select days of the week.

Dragon Hall is currently closed for its annual winter break from 4 November 2024 until early spring 2025. Keep an eye on The National Centre for Writing’s socials and newsletter for updates on spring opening dates!
