World Poetry Day 2025: Wendy Cope

King Street

Join us in celebrating World Poetry Day (21 March 2025) with one of our wittiest and most beloved writers, Wendy Cope, as she graces us with readings from her new book, ‘Collected Poems’, a reflection of her remarkable lifetime’s work.

Through four further collections, Cope has continued to delight her readers while finding a whole new generation of enthusiasts when her poem ‘The Orange’ went viral. Together these poems catalogue the desires and fears that underlie our ordinary existences – love and heartbreak, disappointment and a hard-won capacity to find happiness, even if only in the form of a poem. In their profound attention to and encapsulation of the everyday, these poems serve to make our own lives more remarkable and memorable.

Practiced throughout history – in every culture and on every continent – poetry speaks to our common humanity and our shared values. Wendy Cope’s evocative words will illuminate the trials, tribulations, and joys of being human, offering a moving tribute to the timeless power of poetry.

This special event includes a 25-minute reading from her collected works, followed by a conversation and an audience Q&A.
