On Monday Next A play by Philip King

Creative Quarter Over the Water

Performed by Pockthorpe Light Operatic Players
The Drossmouth Repertory Company is in a state of disarray as they gather for the second rehearsal of their upcoming production. The play, which is set to open next Monday, is still in its early stages with an incomplete set, cast members struggling to memorise lines and an unexpected appearance of the author.

Th Producer, a bombastic figure with a penchant for over-dramatisation, demands instant rewrites and exerts his control over every aspect of the production much to the dismay of the cast (who themselves are battling with the theatre’s carpenter who insists in sawing loudly on the stage during rehearsals.)

On Monday Next is a hilarious play that lays bare the behind-the-scenes drama of a struggling repertory theatre troupe. With a cast of eccentric characters, witty dialogue, and a high-stakes setting, there’s more drama offstage than on, in this comedy about a play that shouldn’t be a comedy!

This production will be in three acts, set in the 1960s and performed by the newly formed non-profit Pockthorpe Light Operatic Players (PLOP!) to raise funds for Norwich Puppet Theatre.
