Jazz for the old times, jazz for the new times. Tangential Trio are a Norwich-based jazz three-piece featuring trumpet/flugelhorn, double bass and drums. The trumpeter sometimes uses loops to build layers of harmony and sound, and the bassist sometimes uses effects to enhance his sound. Their set can include original compositions, a few old-school New Orleans two-best stompers, the odd pop song given a tangential twist.
With their mix of material, and of instruments and technology, they play intriguing jazz which is accessible to wider music-loving audiences. As one fan said recently, ‘they play music for people who like jazz and music for people who don’t like jazz.’ Earlier this year they released their first CD, Permaculture EP, on the respected UK label 33Jazz Records.
