Bill Brandt | Henry Moore at The Sainsbury Centre

This major exhibition at The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts traces the parallel careers of Bill Brandt and Henry Moore, two leading artists of the 20th Century. Photographer, Bill Brandt, and sculptor Henry Moore first crossed paths during the Second World War, whilst documenting the London Underground during the Blitz. This new exhibition brings together almost 200 works from these iconic artists, including significant sculptures, photographs, and drawings. ‘Bill Brandt | Henry Moore’ explores how both artists responded creatively to the British landscape during the turbulent times in which they lived, bringing a fresh perspective on life during the Second World War.

Norwich Castle Projections

The annual projections onto Norwich Castle are back, with two brand-new festive projection shows for you to enjoy. The first of the new shows explores the story of the 12 Days of Christmas, but with a Norwich & Norfolk twist! Look out for key landmarks and attractions. The second half of the Christmas projections won’t be revealed until January 2020, so make sure you head down to find out how the stories end!

Textile Treasures is a celebration of inspiring textiles and their makers, their histories, creativity and craft. Enjoy some of the best-loved textiles at Norwich Castle’s Costume & Textile collection. This exhibition explores local connections and history as told through extraordinary examples of patchwork, applique, and embroidery. Highlights of the exhibition include embroidered letters from Lorina Bulwer, The Bellamy Quilt, and The Brereton Tester panel.

Grayson Perry: The Pre-Therapy Years

The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts presents a stunning new exhibition that explores, for the first time ever, the earliest work of renowned artist Grayson Perry. This exhibition will explore some of Grayson’s earliest forays into the art world, including the explosive and creative works made during his formative years, between 1982 and 1994. For art lovers, ‘Grayson Perry: The Pre-Therapy Years’ represents a unique opportunity to enjoy the artist’s clever, playful and politically-engaged perspective on the world through a number of pieces, many of which have not been seen in public since they were first exhibited.

2020 marked 50 years of UEA’s world-renowned Creative Writing MA. And to continue their celebration of this incredible milestone, UEA Live are bringing us a stellar line-up of online events, workshops, and conversations with renowned authors. Kicking off the Spring season is 2020 Booker Prize shortlisted writer, Tsitsi Dangarembga in conversation with Canongate’s editor-at-large, Ellah Wakatama Allfrey. You can also enjoy live readings with playwright and poet, Inua Ellams; a streaming of an exclusive short film by literary icon Ali Smith; and an exploration of UEA’s flagship project, Future Form.

A Passion for Landscape: Rediscovering John Crome

This exciting exhibition at Norwich Castle will explore one of Britain’s most important but lesser-known landscape painters, John Crome. Born in Norwich, Crome rooted his work in local landscape, capturing scenes of Norwich and Norfolk through his fresh and modern style. Featuring approximately 90 works including paintings, watercolours and etchings, the exhibition includes significant loans from public and private collections alongside examples from Norwich Castle’s own pre-eminent collection of the artist’s works. Extensive new technical analysis of his paintings will throw new light on his technique and materials.

Dippy on Tour: A Natural History Adventure
Summer 2021: Dates TBC
Dippy’s long-awaited visit to Norwich Cathedral is now scheduled for the Summer of 2021, and the city of Norwich is readying itself for some prehistoric fun! Dippy, The National History Museum’s iconic dinosaur cast will take centre-stage in the 900 year-old Cathedral, with a city-wide dinosaur adventure trail planned during Dippy’s visit. Exact tour dates will be announced in the coming months.
