We know that keeping children entertained during the holidays can be a challenge, not to mention costly. However, this summer, Chantry Place is teaming up with the Norwich City Community Sports Foundation and Run Norwich to host a free, family-friendly ‘Sporting Summer’ event. This exciting collaboration aims to provide families with an array of activities that promote community spirit, endless fun, and something for everyone to get involved with. The event is set to run from Saturday, July 20 until Tuesday, September 3 and there’s lots of fun to be had!
The summer of 2024 is set to be an exciting time for sports fans around the world, with both the Olympics and the Euros taking centre stage. Chantry Place is embracing this sporting spirit with its ‘Sporting Summer’ event, so that visitors can enjoy a slice of the action through themed activities and daily sports fun.
The Sporting Summer event at Chantry Place is set to be a fantastic way for families to spend time together throughout the summer holidays. With a wide range of activities designed to entertain and engage children and adults alike, it promises to be a highlight of the summer. Whether you are looking to get active, learn something new, or simply enjoy a fun day out with the family, Chantry Place’s Sporting Summer event is not to be missed.
The Community Sports Foundation will host free activities every Tuesday on the lower ground floor of Chantry Place near Frasers. These activities are designed to offer something for everyone, regardless of their interest in sports. Some of the activities include a Toe Tap challenge encouraging visitors to show off their agility and coordination, Skipping challenges which is a fun way to get hearts pumping and feet moving, console fun and the opportunity to be the ‘gaffer’ and hosting post-match style interviews experiencing both the athlete and media side of sporting. The Community Sports Foundation is the official charity for Norwich City Football Club, using the power of sport to support and inspire our community. Its charitable objectives are driving inclusion for people with disabilities, boosting mental health and wellbeing, and supporting disadvantaged people to raise their aspirations.
Every Wednesday during the summer holidays, Run Norwich will host free family fun at Chantry Place. These events promise to be just as engaging and diverse as the Tuesday activities. Highlights include speed bounce challenges, with these activities encouraging you to test your agility in a fun and competitive way, as well as speed bounce challenges, there will be treadmill and speed incline challenges. And as a real treat for all the family, there will be a Lotus car appearance on Chantry Square. There will also be photo opportunities, competitions, and there will be Run Norwich merchandise available to buy. These activities are designed to engage the entire family, making sure everyone can join in the fun and feel part of the community spirit. Visitors can also enjoy a free sports-themed trail every day at Chantry Place. This trail will start from Deichmann and take you around the whole centre whilst you are learning interesting sports facts along the way. Once completing the trail, participants will get a chance to enter a competition to win £600 worth of Sports Direct vouchers, which have been provided by Chantry Place. The competition will have gold, silver, and bronze prizes, with the top prize being worth £300. The competition winners will be drawn and notified at the end of the summer.
In addition to the free sporting activities and trail, there will be opportunities for visitors to feel like an athlete standing on the podiums. They can take selfies on the Chantry Place podium and see giant sports medals designed by local primary schools that will decorate the Centre throughout the summer.

And you do not even have to be sporty or a sports fan to take part! Our Sporting Summer event is free for visitors, and we are proud to partner with the Community Sports Foundation and Run Norwich, who do such inspiring work in our local community, to have some fun, challenge the family to some sports and activities, and learn a few sports facts along the way. Just turn up and enjoy our free event during Centre opening hours.”
