At Riverside: our station, a place of excited arrivals and sad departures, has connected us to the country since the 19th century. Our iconic stadium, Carrow Road, of joyful wins and heartbreaking defeats, is the proud home of the high-flying Canaries.
On match day, the chants of the world’s oldest football song, ‘On the Ball, City’, echo from Norwich City Football Club across the rooftops, through the lively Riverside complex, and along the winding River Wensum upon which our fine city was founded.
Norwich was built on a river- you’ll see it running right through the heart of the city. And it’s at Riverside that it begins its journey, heading west into the River Yare and the Norfolk Broads. At one point the Wensum served Norwich as the main route for merchants and materials- the stone used to build Norwich Cathedral was brought here all from Caen in Normandy, via a canal dug from Pull’s Ferry.
Now the river is busy with boats, be it canoes, holiday cruisers and day trippers (and paddleboards!). Busier still is Riverside. This is Norwich’s modern entertainment complex, home to bars, restaurants, bowling, cinema and more (including a multi-storey car park), making the riverside as exciting today as it was in the past.
Norwich Train Station is a thriving space, located perfectly next to the Riverside hub and just a short walk from the town centre. The station is a beautiful space to begin your Norwich journey, or a final memory of a fantastic trip.
