A unique city-wide cultural collaboration, bringing performance back to Norwich.
This Summer, theatre has moved to Chapelfield Gardens with Interlude. Norwich Theatre have teamed up with Lost in Translation Circus to bring live performance back to the city, with help from some of our other favourite venues, including Norwich Art Centre, Norfolk & Norwich Festival, and The Garage. With big name comedians like Jimmy Carr, Seann Walsh, and Al Murray, amazing contemporary circus, fabulous children’s theatre, and much more, there’s plenty to keep everyone amused.
From August 10 to September 20, there will be performances nearly every day! A big top tent has been set up in Chapelfield Gardens, complete with bar and outdoor seating, perfect for a pre-show pint. Complete with a buzzing atmosphere, just like the theatre we know and missed, this is performance post-lockdown style, with more space between the seats, extra hygiene protocols and fewer people.
This means a more intimate performance style than ever before – the chance to see huge comedians in a small space! If you like a laugh, you can’t go wrong with Strictly star and all-round funny man Seann Walsh, perpetual worrier and excellent joke-maker Suzi Ruffell, and/or critically acclaimed Wembley sell-out Paul Chowdhry.
For those who like a spectacular, Lost in Translation Circus presents a whole swathe of acrobatic clowning contortion across August: family fun in Hogwallops, cabaret and burlesque in Circus Lates, and classic carousel in Circus Bites.
Interlude is the perfect introduction to theatre, with an open relaxed space and perfect shows for small people. The Garage present My First Show: Little Bo Peep and Her Missing Sheep. Designed to delight little ones from 0-7, this magical adventure features games, nursery rhymes, and original music! For ages 5+ Norwich Puppet Theatre bring Garlic Theatre’s George and the Dragon, the classic medieval legend with dragons, knights, princesses, and puppets!
Britain’s Got Talent finalist Ben Hart conjures up a magical experience with illusions galore. Poet and raconteur Luke Wright will be performing a special one-off show, filled with furious and fierce words.
Graffiti Classics turn the traditional string quartet into an all singing, all dancing, musical romp. For those who like their music with a bit of comedy dramatics, diva La Voix is not to be missed – fancy a bit more politics with your music? Try Jonny & the Baptists. Jonny Awsum performs all his hits from Britain’s Got Talent, plus new material.
Local star Joe Ringer brings jazz back to Norwich, as he performs all the classic hits, from Sinatra to Fitzgerald. Norwich Art Centre present Christina Aldern & Alex Patterson, and The Shackleton Trio.
