Earlham Park
Once the grounds of Earlham Hall, this large riverside park is next to the University of East Anglia. It has wide open spaces, woods and walks beside the river Yare. The park connects with numerous nature reserves, UEA Broad and the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts.
Eaton Park
Eaton Park is a large park with special historic interest and many sport and leisure facilities. The circular pavilion, with its distinctive domed bandstand, is next to a lily pond and model yachting pond. There is a children’s play area, an eighteen-hole pitch and putt course, tennis courts, gardens and plenty of open space.
Cow Tower
Part of the Wensum Riverside Walk, this is a quiet corner on a bend in the river to the east of the Cathedral. The impressive brick tower is part of the city’s medieval defences. Today it mainly guards over grassy spaces and passing ducks. Nearby is the tranquil Cathedral Close.
Waterloo Park
Renowned for its spectacular long herbaceous border, this park has a children’s play area and paddling pool and a pavilion where events are often held.
Chapelfield Gardens
Just a few minutes’ walk from the Forum and the heart of the city, Chapelfield Gardens have lawns, sculptures and a toddlers’ play area.
Mousehold Heath
St James’ Hill, beside Britannia Road gives panoramic views over Norwich. It adjoins Mousehold Heath, which has 180 acres of undulating woodland and heath, crossed by tracks and footpaths. There is also an eighteen-hole pitch and putt golf course.
Norwich’s green spaces, large and small, breathe fresh air into a busy day. Throughout the city you will see the imaginative planting of trees, shrubs, flowers and landscaping that led Norwich to be a 2005 finalist in the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom Campaign. Take time out to enjoy them!
